The new feature in Youtube lets you preview the video by hovering over the thumbnail image of the video.
We first read it in an article by Edgar Alvarez here.
YouTube experimenting with GIF-like video previews
According to a post on its help forum, YouTube began to experiment with video previews on the desktop a couple of weeks ago, albeit in limited fashion. But now the company seems to be ready for a wider rollout, as some users have started seeing the feature on YouTube’s latest dot-com interface.
When we search for more articles we found out that Google did roll it out as early in February. Our source is from an article by Shannon Liao here.
YouTube thumbnails now look like GIFs
Since the end of June, YouTube has been slowly rolling out GIF-like video thumbnails that play three seconds of the video. As of this writing, many already have this feature on their YouTube pages, although it has been available to a select few as early as February.
According to the articles above, videos have to be more than 30 seconds to be eligible.
The cool feature is very good to entice users to click the video.
If you’re into online marketing, don’t miss this one.
The good thing about this GIF like preview is you don’t have to do anything. An Artificial intelligence will generate it from the first half of the video.
Here is a youtube video to see it in action:
